Item description: * See scan - almost perfect condition. This is an absolutely scarce Imperial / Royal Russian antique silver traveller's icon made by the famous Russian Dubkin jewelry factory in Moscow. The icon was made by the Russian master / Assaymaster Dmitrii Dubkin - son of Ivan Dubkin who established the famous Dubkin jewel factory in Msocow in 1841. The icon is marked / hallmarked "DG" in Russian, as well as with the 84 silver hallmark and assay for Moscow in the times of between 1908 - 1917. This is a scarce portable traveller silver icon made with great silver filigree with flower motifs and full color enamel work. There is also a silver base underneath in the form of sun rays which still has most of its gold plating / gilt residue intact. The center of the icon is oval and is made out of fine mother of pearl piece and hand painted on top. The painting is an icon of Saint Sergei / St. Sergii of Radonezh who is the patron of the Russian orthodox church and is an emblematic saint of the Russian Religion and Russian Orthodox Religious history. The icon portrait of St. Sergei is masterly painted by the artist over the Mother of Pearl base with one of the finest antique Russian techniques. There are some very small faults to 2 or 3 places of the miniature painting where some of the pain has fallen, but these faults are not on important parts of the portrait. These can easily be restored, but we decided to offer this fine piece in its absolutely authentic and genuine look as it was from an old estate sale of a Russian family whose ancestor was an officer in General Wrangel's Army. The icon is about60 mm wide and about 80 mm tall including the hook and the back has some red cloth probably covering the wood and mother of pearl base. The enamel work is intact and the silver filigree is also in perfect condition. Similar works of the famous Moscow master Gubkin are in the Russian National Museum as well as in many private collections. Gubkin and the Gubkin jewelry is considered as one of the top such assaymasters together with Faberge, Ovchinnikov, Khlebnikov, etc. Absolutely scarce collector piece and one of the rare Russian jewels and icons.
